I read about it first on BigPeace last night, and one of my writing partners on LibertySF has also written about this.
Major Richard “Dick” Winters has passed away at the age of 92. He was the company commander of Easy Company, 2nd, Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry, of the 101st Air Borne Division, the company profiled in the excellent mini-series Band of Brothers.
Brad Schaefer has a great write-up on Winters over at BigPeace. I encourage all to give it a read. Schaefer ends his piece with “Dick Winters was 92. God speed. You were a better man than I sir.” I couldn’t say it better if I tried, as Winters is also a better man than I am. Rest well, Major. You’ve earned it. And thank you for all you did to keep America, and the world, free.
