Big Island Rendezvous, 2008

Big Island Rendezvous in Albert Lea, MN- this was a kloaked event.

This is an event I’ve heard about from my good friend and fellow Klin, Kosh. Talking Sue’la into going was fairly easy.

First, off, what is the Big Island Rendezvous, and why should Klingons be interested? The Big Island Rendezvous is a living history event recreating early American history, mainly focused on the percussion era of firearms and the trapping era of the American Northwest. Groups represented ranged from Scottish regiments to the Civil War, including an artillery battery with cannon demos.

There was a rifle range and an area set aside for throwing Tomahawks. Although the Tomahawk is not as efficient as a Mek’leth, it is a very handy tool and is well balanced for throwing.

Tents and tee pees were everywhere, along with a fairly large traders area where you could purchase a variety of goods typical of the era, some of which are quite practical for the Klingon Warrior (like leather!).

Kosh, being an old hand at this event, gave us a good tour around the encampment and had a grand old time getting ideas for things that could be incorporated into our Klingon gear.

Sadly, for us, having other commitments, this was a short trip and we departed early, leaving Kosh on his own. The word we received form him the next day, he stayed late (very late) partying with the “after the event closed” crowd and listened to quite a bit of good music and had a grand old time.
